Fellow Hibernians,
Last Saturday we enjoyed a tradition like no other, the season opener of the Hibernian Golf Association.
The lads (and now one lady) were all excited to get back to EGB and participate in a good old Irish Rumble. Some of the fellas had new clubs or bags, and some had somewhat interesting new handicaps. The wind must really have been blowing this spring at Myrtle Beach.
The winners:
First place team: Omar Zabian, Billy Mulhall, Tom Birkett, and Andrew Butterworth
Second place team: Rocco Nicoletti, Joe Nicoletti, Derrek Magro and Tom Williams
First place singles: Omar Zabian
Low gross: Andrew Butterworth
Closest to the pin:
Third hole: Paul Orsino
Ninth hole: Paddy McArdle
Fifteenth hole: Tom Birkett
Seventeenth hole: a tie between Pascal Doran and Eric McDonald

In a nod to that other golf event in Georgia, our first group included three of our most celebrated and distinguished golfers, and Kevin McColgan.
Without our friends John “Fairways” Fahey, Aiden Kilcoyne and Jerry Brennan, our humble golf association would not be the success it is today. Thanks, fellas. And Kevin also played.
Considering that we were playing in early April, and the winter in Stamford was so brutal, the course was in decent shape. The one little hiccup was the condition of the greens. Hidalgo and his team had recently punched the greens, and they were a bit bumpy. Players complained that when you putted, the ball might start out fine, then veer left, then stumble right, and then roll and wobble unsteadily until it finally came to a stop.
Not unlike the regulars at Burns at closing time.
See you this Sunday, back at the Heights for more Hibernian Hi-jinks.
