Fellow Hibernians,
It was championship Sunday last weekend at Sterling as three titles were settled: the Memorial Cup, the Club Championship and the Player of the Year. It was a bit windy, and the leaves were waist high, but with liberal use of the leaf rule, the boys had a grand time.
The Winners:
Singles:
Brendan Brady 42 points $200
Mark Ward 39 points $175
Pat Brady 38 points $75
Low Gross:Ray Duggan 81 $50
Closest to the Pin:
Fifth hole Mark Ward 17’ 4” $50
Eighth hole Dave O’Malley 18’1” $50
Fifteenth hole Craig Mahler 17’9” $50
Seventeenth hole Paul Atkinson 9’7” $50
Craig Mahler and Declan Docherty were playing the second of their two rounds to determine the winner of the Club Championship. Mahler started the day with a three hole lead, and he didn’t take his foot off the gas all day. Docherty fought well, but Mahler would not be denied. Craig Mahler is the winner of the Club Championship.
The finals of the Memorial Cup featured two cagey HGA veterans, Omar Zabian and Dermot Flynn. Omar was playing great on the front and had opened a three hole lead through thirteen. On the fourteenth he confidently stepped up to the tee and snap-hooked his drive into the water, giving Dermot a chance. But as quickly as the door opened for Flynn, it slammed shut: Omar managed to make bogey, despite the penalty stroke, and win the hole. Zabian wrapped up the match on the fifteenth.

Congratulations to the winner and runner-up of the Memorial Cup. Martin looks suspicious.
After six months, over sixteen rounds and seventeen and two thirds of holes of golf, Jarleth Carroll (winner of the doubles championship two weeks ago) and Noel McNamara (who hasn’t won shite in years) were tied for the lead for player of the year. Both lads were lying three with putters in their hands on the eighteenth, but Jarleth, who was just off the green, was stroking. Jarleth went first, sending his ball down the slippery slope past the hole by about ten feet. Next, Noel, putting up the hill, left his birdie putt about four feet short. Jarleth, going for the win, sent his par putt up the hill, missing the hole by just inches, then made his tap-in. Noel, with a par putt, and the opportunity to tie as player of the year, did this:

Jarleth Carroll and Noel McNamara are the 2024 Players of the Year!
See you Saturday for an Irish Rumble. We are also playing golf in the afternoon.
