Outing #12 recap

Fellow Hibernians,

The boys traveled over the Hudson River for our annual trip to Philip $ Rotella Memorial Golf Course in beautiful Mount Ivy, New York. In addition to the usual, we played the semi-finals of the doubles and a big club championship match.
The Winners:
Ian Duggan Jr.  44 pointsDeclan Docherty   43 pointsJarleth Carroll  40 points
Closest to the pin:Third hole, Craig Mahler  $50Fifth hole, Craig Mahler  $50Eighth hole, Craig Mahler  $50Twelfth hole, Pascal Doran  $50Seventeenth hole, Declan Docherty $50
Low Gross, Declan Docherty 74
The first of the two doubles matches featured longtime Hibernians Brendan Brady and Dermot Flynn, against the young Duggan cousins, Ian Jr. and James. Just like last week, the Duggan Buzzsaw was too much for their aging opponents as they took the match two and one. The long-in-the-tooth twosome played well and held the youngsters off for a while, but the kids had too much firepower.

The other semi-final doubles match featured 2022 champs and 2023 runners-up Eric MacDonald and Jarleth Carroll against Kevin McColgan and Dennis Conroy.  The match started out very tight, with neither team winning any of the first eight holes. Then MacDonald got hot, winning the next two holes, followed by a Carroll win on twelve. The rest of the back nine was like a Whac-A-Mole game. Every time the duo from Darien looked up, they were bonked on the head by the former champs.
The finals of the doubles championship will be held on September 29th at Putnam, provided neither of the Duggan boys gets grounded.

The man of a thousand envelopes, Craig Mahler punched his ticket to the final four, winning  a tough singles match against Andrew Butterworth two and one. Craig will face the very busy Jarleth Carroll.

Here’s John Carroll’s dad, Cyril, trying out the new sand wedge he purchased at the Home Depot.

Cyril is joined by fellow Mohill boy Leo Reynolds. Um, Leo, that’s not what they mean by scratch golfer.
Finally, congratulations to Declan Docherty for the 74 he shot on a very difficult course. That’s great play, Declan. The boys should all give him a big handshake. Leo, you can just wave.

See you on September 14th at Tashua Knolls, where we will find out which two golfers will compete for the club championship.
