Outing #3 2024

Fellow Hibernians,

Last Saturday we returned to the friendly confines of E. Gerry Brennan to compete in the first round of the Club Championship. Some of the matches were tight, some less so, but the boys still had a lot of laughs.

The Winners:

Noel McNamara 43 points

Mark Ward 41 points

John Fahey  40 points

Low Gross, Noel McNamara  75

Closest to the pin:

Third Hole, John Fahey, 14’  $50

Ninth Hole, PJ Tynan, 3’   $50

Fifteenth Hole, Jim McEvoy, 14’  $50

Seventeenth Hole, Noel McQuillan, 17’  $50

The shot of the day belongs to Noel McQuillan for his miracle effort on seventeen. The hole was playing a long 165 yards on Saturday, and Noel stood ready to send his ball soaring with his trusty five-wood. As he began his iconic backswing Noel felt a burst of air hit him in the face. Noel, in mid swing, changed strategies and slapped a low shot designed to slide under the sudden burst of hurting wind. The new plan worked to perfection as his shot hugged the ground, never getting higher than a couple of feet. Sure, along the way the ball bounced off a rock or two, and maybe decapitated a few worms, but it settled gently seventeen feet past the hole. Two putts later Noel had a par, and fifty bucks.

Great job Noel.

See you Saturday at Richter Park in Danbury where we compete in the first round of the Doubles Championship, along with the usual silliness.
