Donnie O’Dwyer 41 points, $150

Paul Atkinson 35 points, $100

Closest to the Pin:

Third hole John Fahey $50

Ninth hole Mark Ward $50

Fifteenth hole Derek Williams $50

Seventeenth hole Tom Williams $50

Our final foursome of the year included the leaders of the Player of the Year, Noel McNamara, Paul Atkinson, Eric MacDonald and Brendan Brady. All four of the boys played well, but by the back nine it was shaping up to be a battle between Atkinson and McNamara. After going on a mini-run of pars, McNamara stood in the tee box of the fifteenth with a three point lead. Noel’s tee shot on fifteen just caught the hazard on the left allowing Paul, who parred the hole to inch closer. After a push on sixteen, Atkinson pulled off a miracle sand-wedge off the cart path on seventeen to tighten the contest even more.

On the eighteenth Atkinson sliced his drive towards the evergreens and the eighth fairway. He was 145 yards out, and he had a relatively clean lie, but he had to carry the tree protecting the right side of the green. With his eight-iron in hand, Atkinson struck the ball perfectly, then watched it fly toward the green. He knew he hit a good shot, but he couldn’t see the ball land. Was it on the green? Did he hit it over the green? Nervously, Paul drove up to the green to find his ball safely on the back of the surface. Meanwhile, McNamara was in the middle of the fairway, but had a soggy lie which got the best of him as he was unable to clear the hazard, opening the door for Atkinson. After a long putt to get close, all Paul had to do was two putt. Click the icon below to see what happened next.

See you Zody’s Saturday Night for our year end Party, where trophies will be handed out, drinks will be consumed and lies (well, maybe exaggerations) will be told.
