Fellow Hibernians,

Pascal Doran snuck by Dennis Guilfoyle 2 and 1.Doubles Matches:Omar Zabian and Billy Mulhall bested Noel McNamara and Tom Birkett 4 and 2.Defending champions Jarlteth Carroll and Eric McDonald beat Sean Collins and Steve McDonough in a three hole playoff.Last Thursday Cyril Carroll and Mark Ward got past Paul Chiapetta and Chris Fratarolli 3 and 2.
The featured match of the day was the doubles battle between Carroll/McDonald and Collins/McDonough. The defending champs started out hot on the front side and were cruising along until nature intervened on the ninth hole. While looking for an errant shot in the right rough, McDonald was attacked by a swarm of bees that had their way with him many times. (There is a rumor going around that these were Galway bees). With McDonald playing hurt, Collins and McDounough roared back, and stepped up to the eighteenth tee box up one. Ignoring the pain and suffering of his traumatic insect incident, McDonald stiffened and sunk a huge birdie putt to force the match into extra holes. After winning the first hole, and halving the second, the Champs were in control stepping up to the par-three third hole. That’s when Jarleth delivered a dagger to the heart in the form of a tee shot to within five inches of the cup, good for a tap-in birdie, and the win. The Champs move on to the semi-finals, and Collins and McDonough walked away scratching their heads and wondering what happened.
The shot of the day came on the second hole, when Derek Magro holed out from about 110 yards for an eagle Fortunately for Derek, his eagle was not of the hole-in-one variety. Those can be expensive with this crowd.
See you on August 19, when we return to Helmet Heights for the next round of The Club Championship and the prestigious Presidents Cup.
